Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC) thickener with low substitution. Achieves a viscosity of 4,000 cP with small amounts of additives.

Product Line: METHOCEL™

METHOCEL™ K4M is a water-soluble cellulose ether polymer. It is based on a hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) with low substitution. The product has a viscosity of 4000 cP with low usage intensity.

 

Application

METHOCEL™ K4M serves as a thickener, rheological modifier, binder, lubricant and film former as well as a water retention agent. The product is generally used for ceramics, cleaning solutions and coatings.

  • Ceramics: METHOCEL™ K4M is widely used in the extrusion of refractories and ceramics. It provides uniform thickening, improved bonding ability and excellent rheological control in sliding applications with high lubrication requirements. It also ensures greater glide and smoothness of the surface application and prevents sagging or deformation.
  • Cleaning Solutions: METHOCEL™ K4M is widely used in household and industrial cleaning products. It provides highly effective thickening and rheological control for the formulation of detergents and cleaning products.
  • Varnishes and Paints: METHOCEL™ K4M offers excellent properties as a thickener and film former in a wide range of applications. It also improves the processability, stability and water retention capacity of coatings and paints.
  • Plastics: METHOCEL™ K4M serves as a suspending agent in PVC polymerization. The product offers excellent particle size control, low reactor scaling, high bulk densities and improved plasticizer absorption.
