Description

Milled Lactose With a fixed amount of fine particles Cohesive

Milled inhalation lactose is a highly consistent crystalline lactose with irregular-shaped particles and cohesive flow properties. Lactose is mechanically milled to varying degrees of particle size. This will allow pharmaceutical companies to choose the best grade fitting their formulation needs.

The strict and highly consistent particle size control during the production in combination with state of the art particle size measuring techniques, form the basis for the success of our inhalation milled grades. At DFE Pharma, Lactohale® and Respitose® are the brands for inhalation lactose grades by milling.

Particle Size and Flow

Lactohale® and Respitose® milled lactose grades consist of irregular shaped particles with a controlled particle size. Milled lactose typically has a broad particle size distribution, with lower median particle size than sieved lactose. Due to its fine nature and relatively high surface area, the flow of milled lactose is classified as cohesive to very cohesive. Milled lactose is for example typically used for its cohesiveness in membrane filling technology or to enable plug formation in capsule filing technology.

By using a combination of different lactose grades, the flow and fines content of the formulation can be steered towards optimal product performance. At DFE Pharma a wide range of milled and sieved inhalation lactose grades are available referred to as Lactohale® and Respitose®.
