Current Developments in Excipient Science – Implication of Quantitative Selection of Each Excipient in Product Development
Implication of Quantitative Selection of Each Excipient in Product Development
Excipients’ role in designing different dosage forms does not require any introduction. These are the additives that are added to the formulation along with pharmacologically active substance. The main purpose of adding them is to increase the bulk of the formulation along with imparting desired properties. Excipients, like the drug substance, need to be validated and standardized; the following chapter gives brief information about the excipients used in different dosage forms including solid dosage forms, liquid dosage forms, and semisolid dosage forms. Considering the ongoing development in the field of pharmaceutical advanced formulations we also cover the excipients used in nanoformulations.
Apart from that, special notes on multimineral excipients, coprocessed excipients, and excipient incompatibility, along with a brief history of use of excipients in the pharmaceuticals sector, are presented. Continue the book chapter on excipients or check excipients basics.
