Compressol™ ProTab in Mups Applications

MUPS tablet compression is challenging due to the fragility of coated pellets, which are prone to rupture and segregation, risking drug release and uniformity issues. Compressol ProTab, a highly compactible excipient, enabled a robust direct compression approach—enhancing flow, preserving pellet integrity, and delivering strong, stable tablets at low pressure.

THE SOLUTION

A MUPS tablet developed using Compressol™ ProTab through direct compression, eliminating the need for multiple cushioning excipients. The formulation utilized minimal excipients while ensuring adequate flow and compactibility. The resulting tablet was robust, stable, and conserved the taste-masking property of the MUPS for a patient friendly dosage.

RESULTS

Compressol® ProTab enabled robust MUPS tablet formation at a target breaking force of 30 N with 0.0% friability, indicating robust manufacturing. Drug release met USP monograph standards, with extended time points confirming ProTab’s ability to withstand compression stress. Pellet and coating integrity were preserved, and content uniformity was excellent (AV = 8.4), well within USP <905> limits—ensuring consistent dose delivery.
