Viatel™ polymers are used in the fabrication of degradable medical devices and tissue engineering solutions.

In medical device polymer applications, viatel™ polymers provide structural support for a controlled duration of time before they are resorbed by the body. This eliminates the need for surgical removal once the healing process has completed and provides several device specific benefits such as localized drug release opportunities. Their potential doesn’t stop there: everyday new uses for bioresorbable polymers are being explored in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
In tissue engineering applications, viatel™ polymers are used to create temporary scaffolds which can help repair, replace, or regenerate tissue in the human body and thereby assist organs to repair themselves following disease, injury, or incapacity.
Typically, therefore, Viatel™ polymers are intended to be used as components to create:
- bioresorbable implants, plates and screws for trauma and orthopedics
- bioresorbable stents and device coatings for cardiovascular treatments
- wider medical devices such as neural conduits, hernia meshes, dental and ophthalmic treatments
- injectable hydrogels
- hard (e.g., bone) and soft (e.g., skin) tissue regeneration scaffolds
- wound closure devices such as staples and sutures
These polymers have a proven safety track record, are completely metabolized and are easily processed by way of 3D printing, injection molding, hot melt extrusion, and other techniques.
