Abstract
The components and parameters of the surface tension of two surfactants of the Kolliphor type (ELP and RH40) and berberine (BBR), the size of the molecules, the contactable area, the adsorption at the solution-air interface, micellization as well as adsorption and micellization thermodynamic parameters were discussed taking the literature data into account.
Highlights
- Minimal area of BBR molecule is similar to its CAr at a parallel orientation towards the interface.
- At large surfactant concentration mole fraction of BBR in MAM is larger compared bulk phase.
- ELP and RH40 adsorbed at the W-A interface reduce only the AB component of water ST.
- Concentration of BBR in mixed micelles is greater compared to the bulk phase.
- BBR + surfactant complexes interactions through the water phase have a significant role in the aggregation process.
The effects of both surfactants, surfactant +berberine as well as two surfactants +berberine mixtures on the adsorption at the solution-air interface, micellization and thermodynamic parameters were considered. Possible description and prediction of the surface tension isotherms of the aqueous solutions of studied surfactants and their mixtures with berberine were analysed. Considerations on the surface excess concentration of these systems, the mixed monolayer at the solution-air interface and mixed micelles composition as well as thermodynamic parameters of the mixed monolayer and micelles formation were also presented.
