There is no one-size-fits-all solution to solubilization, but the industry is increasingly investigating practical solutions. BASF has designed 10 unique Self-Emulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SEDDS), which can be easily reproduced to evaluate solubilization capability and bioavailability improvement for lead compounds at various product development stages. The presenter will discuss how they found the following:

• Proper balance of formulation components is critical for complex systems
• LBDDS formulations, specifically SEDDS, are highly dependent on excipients and their functionalities
• Kolliphor® RH 40, and Kolliphor® EL are highly effective at making SEDDS

2. Introducing superSNEDDS – as way of increasing the applicability of lipid-based drug delivery systems
Oral self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) have proven to increase the absorption of poorly soluble drugs. A frequent shortcoming is the relatively low drug dose that can be dissolved in the SNEDDS, thereby reducing their potential. The presenter will discuss 1) the different ways to increase the achievable drug dose in SNEDDS, such that the SNEDDS application can be more versatile and 2) the considerations required when developing in vitro models for predicting SNEDDS performance.
