With CPHI Milan bringing the pharmaceutical industry together last week, there could hardly be a better time to look beyond the immediate product announcements and ask a broader question:
What will really shape excipient and formulation development through 2030?
Our new Excipients 2026 – 2030 Industry Report combines 185 survey responses with 13 expert interviews to explore how formulation priorities, delivery technologies and expectations around excipients are changing.
The report looks at some of the themes that have certainly been part of many CPHI discussions: oral biologics, novel and multifunctional excipients, advanced drug delivery, manufacturing, sustainability and the growing role of AI.
The findings are particularly interesting because they compare the broader industry view with the expert interviews. In several areas, the direction is similar, but the experts add important conditions: regulatory clarity, reproducibility, scale-up, data quality, supply resilience and evidence from real formulations.
A recurring theme emerges:
The value of an excipient is increasingly linked to what it can reliably enable in a formulation, process or delivery system.
The full report includes survey charts, stakeholder comparisons, expert perspectives and our main implications for the excipient and formulation industry.
