IOI Oleo GmbH is known for its high-quality oleochemical specialities and the technical advice it provides on the use of its products. Thanks to its diversity and longstanding reliability, the product portfolio is used in the pharmaceutical, care, nutrition and technical applications sectors. The R&PD team and its expertise in application development is therefore continuously growing, keeping pace with the demands of the market.
IOI product development at the Witten site looks back on decades of experience in the field of product properties and applications of lipids and oleochemical specialities. Through state-of-the-art technologies, we are able to react proactively and immediately to new or updated regulations, market requirements and customer needs.

The close cooperation between product synthesis, formulation and development work allows the R&PD department to analyse application-related issues in detail and thus further optimise processes.
What advantages does this offer our customers and partners?
We can support you with our expertise from the initial product idea through synthesis to the first formulations. We are not limited to standard formulations, but can meet individual customer-specific requirements and optimise raw materials with regard to specific parameters or even develop new ones.
Our daily work includes, among other things:
Physicochemical characterisation of substance properties
New state-of-the-art technologies enable the targeted development and testing of the properties of both the raw materials used and the products developed. This means that conventional product properties such as viscosities can be described and understood more precisely using rheometers, as can special analyses of the surface activity of substances and thus the structure-activity relationship of our products.
Analyses of oxidation stability or rheological or thermal properties (DSC, TGA) are also possible without any problems.
Development of formulations and their characterisation
Thanks to the broad product range of IOI Oleo GmbH, the R&PD department is focussed on the development and analysis of a wide variety of applications. For example, liquid formulations such as emulsions, but also solid formulations such as sticks or coatings can be analysed. This is done using microscopic analyses, particle size distributions or dynamic penetration and bending fracture measurements.
Stability tests
Our cGMP certification and strong focus on the pharmaceutical sector enable us to carry out stability studies, e.g. in accordance with ICH Q1, as well as stability stress tests during development. These studies are carried out on our products as well as on the formulations.
